LOCATION: Shelter Island, NY
PROPERTY SIZE: 1.5 Acres

Inspired by the causeway between Ram Island and Shelter Island, this design embraces flow. It features native flora such as Prickly Pear Cactus, Winged Lythrum, Beach Plum, Baccharis, Myrica, Cedars, native wildflowers and natural grass meadows — this is a space that invites wildlife. Starting with a barren lot with little but the house and some pin oaks and a tennis court, we set a course to naturalize the property. Through a few meetings with the family, we understood their shared vision and individualistic expectations. We unified their vision through the language of plants, creating a wild and native space attractive to birds, butterflies, bees, and dragonflies while boasting play spaces for entertainment.
